Under state and federal legislation, employers and those with management or control of workplaces have a duty of care to protect health and safety by conducting their undertaking in a way, and providing and maintaining a working environment, that is safe and without risks to health. This includes risks that are associated with harmful levels of exposure to UV radiation that can lead to skin cancer.
Occupations and industries at increased risk due to the outdoor nature of the work include, but are not limited to: mining and earth resource workers, construction workers, engineers, civil contractors, outdoor council workers, landscapers, electrical and communications workers, vehicle drivers, agricultural and horticultural workers, painters, plumbers, warehousing workers, carpenters, emergency workers, passenger and transport workers, PE teachers, fitness instructors and those who work around water such as lifeguards, fishermen and marine workers.
When your staff attend a skin check appointment with Mobile Screening, we look for all types of skin cancers including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The biggest concern, however, is melanoma. While less common, it is the most serious form of skin cancer which can grow very quickly and spread to other parts of the body if left untreated. Melanomas can also appear anywhere on the body, not just on skin that has been exposed to sun.
